Chapter 4747
Hearing Aid Dealers and Fitters
Biennial Renewal
► Hearing Aid Fitter
Link to LAWriter® Ohio Administrative Code Chapter 4747-1 for laws and rules regarding continuing education for hearing aid fitters.
Hearing aid fitters must complete twenty hours of approved Continuing Education (CE), including two hours related to ethics in order to renew their license every two years. New continuing education rules for hearing aid fitters took effect on January 1, 2023 for the 2023-2024 practice biennium. At least 10 of the 20 hours shall be specific to the measurement and testing of human hearing, the making of impressions for earmolds, or selecting and adapting of hearing aids. Licensee shall retain supporting documents of continuing education for inspection by the Board for four years after the date of renewal. The hours must be obtained during the current practice period.
For example: If your license expires December 31, 2024, then to renew for 2023-2024 practice biennium, your CE hours must be earned between January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2024. One clock hour, e.g., 60 minutes equals one CE hour. Please see OAC 4747-1-11(C)1) for more information regarding the rules on continuing education.
The Board does not keep a record of individual licensees’ ongoing CE hours. Licensees are responsible for confirming CE approval and maintaining verification of attendance.
Hearing Aid Fitters Continuing Education Audit
The Board conducts an audit of at least 10% of renewed hearing aid fitters to confirm CE compliance.
Pursuant to OAC 4747-1-11(G)(4), failure to meet CE requirements, or to comply with the audit, may result in suspension, revocation, denial of license or renewal of license according to provisions of Chapter 119. of the Revised Code.
