Examination information for Hearing Aid Specialist applicants
The Board administered laws and rules exam and practical exam are scheduled in Columbus.  The Board notifies eligible candidates of their exam date, location, and time.  Please contact Brandy Thomas, Administrative Professional at (614) 466-8858 to schedule your laws and rules exam and practical exam.  The dates for both exams are listed below.  Additional exam dates will be posted based on the number of applicants who are eligible to sit for these exams.  Generally, the Board administered exams are scheduled on the second and fourth Friday of each month beginning at 10:00 a.m., and concluding until all sections of the exams are administered by the exam proctors.  Due to COVID-19, the exam schedule for has been adjusted.

Other Important Exam Information
Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code section 4747.05 applicants for a hearing aid fitter’s license must successfully pass qualifying examinations specified and administered by the Board.  There are three qualifying examinations.  Applicants will receive information and instructions regarding the qualifying examinations they must complete when submitting their application through the eLicense Ohio system.    

ILE : International Licensing Examination for Hearing Instrument Specialists
Applicants must first pass a written competency exam, e.g., the International Licensing Examination for Hearing Health Professionals (“ILE”), administered by the International Hearing Society (“IHS”).  Upon receiving the application through eLicense Ohio and determining that the applicant must take the ILE, the Board will send IHS the candidate’s e-mail address.  IHS will send the candidate an “Introduction” e-mail message with a study guide and instructions to schedule the ILE at an authorized exam location.  IHS will notify the Board to confirm that the candidate has passed the ILE.  The Board will contact the applicant to confirm they are eligible to sit for the Board administered laws and rules exam and practical exam.  An applicant is not eligible to take the laws and rules exam or practical exam until the Board receives confirmation from IHS that the candidate successfully passed their written ILE.
